Dear Carol, I really enjoyed your book. It kept my attention in one reading; I rarely sit and read a book in one night! I wondered if the voice of Aunt Janeen is the voice of the author? I found that she spoke with authority about the subject of reincarnation. Take care, Mrs. Connor
Intersting question. I suppose you could say all the voices are the voice of the author as it's me making them all up. As for reincarnation, specifically, yes, I'm pretty sure I believe in it- but not 100 per cent sure - how could I be? Carol
The third book is written- read my post of Jan 8 and you'll see how that went. Josh- what inspired me to write the book was actually the bombing in Oklahoma City. I wondered what it would be like to have your life turned upside down in a second, which is what happens to Jade. Then I added the psychic element because, as well as absolutely believing in psychic ability, it gives me a chance to discuss philosophy with young people and I'm convinced it's something they are interested in. You know, the basic questions, why are we here? What does life mean? Is there a purpose?
How do I feel when reading my book? I only read it when I read aloud to schools, otherwise I never reread a book once it's finished. Usually I like it, but sometimes i'll catch a sentence I feel could be better, but I try not to dwell on that. It's published and I'm working and worrying about the new one.
Best tips for aspiring writers? Read!! Read everything you can- from War and Peace to comic books. You best teacher is other writing. And when you write write about something you really care about, whatever form it's in, it needs to matter to you.
Jeremy, Ben, I've been writing for over 30 years now. And yes, my new book with Perry Nodelman called The Proof That Ghosts Exist, takes place in Winnipeg and Falcon Lake. I like writing about Winnipeg. I can see everything so clearly. I loved writing those sections in Visions about the -35 degree weather. I knew I could describe it so people would feel it!
Dear Carol, We plan on having the students share this site with their parents tonight. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions; this has been a great learning experience. Take care, Mrs. Connor
Hi Jenna, I often use family or friends as names in my books. Aunt Janeen is named after a real best friend Janeen, who is very spititual. Dr. Manuel is named after my cousin Manny who is a psychiatrist and also very spiritual. My sister's name is Susan, hence Susie and my brother's name is John, hence, Jon. Jade isn't named after anyone though, I just wanted an unusual name for her.
Have you ever made a big mistake in the story and you thought the book would do bad but it was way better this way than it would have been if you had changed?
Hi Sarah, I'm not sure exactly how long it took to research The Freak books but at least a few months of reading for each of them. I've read lots of books about psychics, how they work, also books on religion and philosphy and spiritualism. Far, book three, intoduces new characters, but is still about Jade, Jon and Jade's family. Also Far is set in Palm Springs, not Winnipeg. We're not sure if it will be titled Far or Betrayal. Any thoughts? The Ghost books are all new characters.
Hi students, Some of the things in the book happened to me in real life- like walking in - 30 weather! I've had some amazing psychic experiences, some with me telling my daughter things tha came true, some with other people telling me things that came true. Re how long it took to write Visions- about 3 weeks on te first draft and then about 2-3 weeks on each draft after that and I think there were around 5 or 6 drafts, plus copy editing and research- probaby around 6 months in all. No favourie in terms of the 3 books, i loved writing all of them, this is one of my all time favourite series. If I were reincarnated I'd just like to be a human being and try to do better each time I come back- be a better person that is. I do try to put a little comedy in, and make Jade funny. As for mistakes- sometimes they can help you to make a better book. And thanks for the feedback on the title! All best, Carol

I'll try to answer the rest later and post them.
This has been fun- hope you keep reading all my books!

Personally, I think Betrayel is a better title.
I think that they are both really good titles. It is a hard choice.
